Can’t Rain on Our Parade: AMPP Annual Conference + Expo
In an inspiring display of community spirit and resilience, the 2024 AMPP Annual Conference + Expo in New Orleans faced unforeseen weather challenges head-on, proving that not even a significant roof leak could dampen the enthusiasm and focus of its members, exhibitors, and attendees. Despite the hiccup, the conference maintained its member-focused agenda, emphasizing the strength and adaptability of the AMPP community.
"I am genuinely impressed and inspired by the spirit of our exhibitors and the unity of our community,” said Greg Muha, AMPP's Director of Conferences, Exhibits, and Sponsorships. “The way everyone rallied together in the face of adversity was remarkable. Our members and attendees have expressed how this year's conference felt even more member-focused, which is a testament to the positive energy and collaborative effort of everyone involved. It's clear that challenges do not define us; rather, it's our response to those challenges that truly matters."
The incident, which occurred just before the opening ceremony, prompted a swift and effective response from both AMPP staff and the dedicated crew in New Orleans. The exhibit hall opened after only a minor 30-minute delay, and thanks to the crews’ tireless work throughout the night, the event proceeded as planned the next morning with all exhibitors’ participation. "The show must go on!" became a rallying cry for the AMPP community, underscoring the collective determination to continue and excel in the face of challenges.
Muha's pride in the AMPP community's response to the incident was palpable:
"I'm convinced that our exhibitors, attendees, and staff triumphed over numerous obstacles with unwavering perseverance and positivity. Their dedication to ensuring the conference not only proceeded but thrived is a clear indication of the strength and character of our community. I'm immensely proud to be part of this group. Rain or shine, the AMPP Annual Conference and Expo stands as a beacon of what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared purpose and positive attitude.
Updates to AMPP SSPC Certifications to Launch May 1
The AMPP certifications committee approved new changes for the AMPP SSPC applicator credentials that will go into effect on May 1, 2024. All applicator/craftworker certifications will now have a standardized renewal period of 4 years and will not require a renewal exam. They will also have the AMPP branding and require 1,000 hours of work experience for renewal, except for CAS Level 2 which requires 1,500 hours. There are no changes to naming or other aspects of these certifications to keep them easily recognized in the field.

AMPP Unveils Its 100th Chapter Worldwide
In an exhilarating reveal at the recent AMPP Annual Conference and Expo in New Orleans, AMPP marked a monumental stride in its mission to shape the future of materials protection and performance. This historic occasion celebrated the launch of AMPP's 100th chapter, a testament to the organization's dynamic global expansion and its pledge to unite industry professionals under a banner of innovation and expertise.
The event, a convergence of nearly 6,000 industry professionals, set the stage for the announcement of three pioneering chapters in Kentucky, Iraq, and Australia, with Australia achieving the honor of becoming AMPP's centennial chapter.

Over 30 AMPP chapter leaders convened at the AMPP Annual Conference + Expo to share their successes and discuss the challenges they face. Many of the ideas discussed included ways that our chapters can better serve our members by making meeting locations more convenient, varying topics to address the needs of our diverse membership, and some ideas on how to improve marketing communications and community engagement.
Some of the takeaways:
· Meet your members where they are by varying locations throughout the chapter area.
· Address their needs through content that considers the needs of the members.
· Some members can attend only during the day, others only in the evening. Make sure your schedule accommodates both.
· Remind your chapter members to update their profile information and email preferences so that they can receive their chapter communications.
